Obstetrics training
Obstetrics is a core strength of Valley Family Medicine. Every resident graduates with at least 80 deliveries, and many reach more than 100 during their three years.
Continuity from the first prenatal visit
We prioritize residents' ability to care for patients from the first prenatal visit through delivery. These continuity deliveries let residents follow a family through the whole pregnancy and postpartum experience, as well as newborn care.
Specialized surgical OB-trained faculty
Three of our core family medicine faculty have fellowship training in surgical obstetrics, and our core faculty also includes an OB/GYN. Because of this, residents see both routine and higher-complexity obstetric patients in their own continuity clinic.
In deliveries, residents work with core family medicine faculty, community OB/GYN physicians, and midwives, and they have opportunities to scrub into cesarean sections.
Reproductive health (RHEDI)
Valley Family Medicine is a RHEDI (Reproductive Health Education in Family Medicine) program. Our residents receive training in reproductive justice, contraception, miscarriage management, and medical abortion.
